Sampdoria are said to be in talks with Cagliari for Giovanni Simeone, proposing Maya Yoshida and Jakub Jankto in exchange.
It would be a return to Marassi for Cholito, who did well for Samp’s arch-rivals Genoa, but he has struggled at Fiorentina and in Sardinia.
Sky Sport Italia claim the striker, who turns 26 next month, was the subject of negotiations between Cagliari and Sampdoria today.
The proposal would include Yoshida and Jankto as part of an exchange.
However, over the last few days there were reports in Spanish and Argentine papers suggesting Simeone was ready to try a different experience after five years of Serie A football.
He found the net six times in 33 Serie A appearances this season, with Cagliari narrowly avoiding relegation.
His father is Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, but the pair have said they won’t work together, as that could create awkwardness with his teammates.
