Serie A | Bologna 0-1 Venezia: Okereke shocks Mihajlovic

David Okereke gave Venezia a second consecutive surprise win, as they conquered wasteful Bologna at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

The Rossoblu were fired up after a couple of victories, although Jerdy Schouten and Lorenzo De Silvestri were out of action for Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men. The Lagunari beat Roma 3-2 before the break for international duty and wanted to build on that, though Crnigoj and Ebuehi were on the treatment table.

Adama Soumaoro’s glancing header skimmed the crossbar from a corner, while Sergio Romero had his gloves stung by Mattias Svanberg.

Riccardo Orsolini forced a save at the back post after a well-worked team move, but it was Venezia who took the lead somewhat against the run of play.

Gianluca Busio battled his way through the centre and had the rub of the green with a lucky ricochet, allowing David Okereke to pounce from 10 yards.

Romero palmed Marko Arnautovic’s snapshot round the post, but Tanner Tessmann almost doubled Venezia’s advantage on the counter, testing Lukasz Skorupski from a tricky angle.

There were chances at both ends in stoppages, Federico Santander penalty appeals rejected for a nudge in the back, then Henry failing to keep his cool one-on-one with Skorupski, but Venezia clung on for their first win in Bologna since April 1943.
