Krause: ‘Buffon believes in Parma’s project’

Parma President Kyle Krause says it’s ‘thrilling’ to see Gigi Buffon back at the Stadio Tardini and explains his long-term project for the Ducali.

Parma were relegated to Serie B last season but are planning to return t Italy’s top flight in 2022.

“It was tough to be relegated, but my family and I have a long-term project for Parma,” Krause told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“We are building a strong team, we have made some strategic changes within the club and the target is to keep improving, becoming a point of reference in the long run and stabilizing ourselves at the top of Italian football.”

Former midfielder Enzo Maresca has been appointed Parma’s new head coach.

“We were looking for a coach with his qualities. We like his playing style and his desire to emerge. I told him to remain himself and, of course, to take us back to Serie A. We trust him and his staff.”

Parma’s most important summer signing is arguably Gigi Buffon, who returned to the club 20 years after leaving the Tardini.

“It’s incredibly thrilling to have brought him to Parma, we wanted it to happen and he believes in our project,” Krause said.

“He has great motivation and that’s why he is a world-class athlete. I’ve admired his leadership and his talent over the years, now he’s returned home. His values and his talent are what we were looking for.”
