Immobile injury | Vialli hits back at Lotito and Lazio

Italy team coordinator Gianluca Vialli has reacted to the comments from Lazio President Claudio Lotito after Ciro Immobile returned from international duty with an injury.

The team coordinator and former striker spoke about the situation between the Italy staff and Lazio, who traded barbs over the current leading goalscorer’s injury.

Immobile had to pull out of the squad for the World Cup Qualifiers against Switzerland with a calf injury and has tried to recover in time for the game against Juventus on Saturday.

He will not make it for the big game at the Olimpico and an angered Lotito continued to suggest the Biancocelesti would have treated the situation in a different manner.

Vialli claimed it’s ‘unfair to question the professionalism’ of the Azzurri’s medical staff and protected the camp at Italy.

“It’s unfair to question the professionalism of the national team’s medical staff,” Vialli told ANSA. “I thought that Prof. Ferretti’s detailed report on the eve of the Olimpico match had already clarified the conditions and management of the Immobile injury.

“As I was able to ascertain directly and as always happens when players are called up for the national team, our medical staff has been professional, scrupulous and transparent in verifying and managing the player’s physical condition.
