Euro 2020 | Calhanoglu at a crossroads: will he follow Donnarumma out of Milan?

Hakan Calhanoglu will start against Italy this evening with the Turkey playmaker who has yet to decide whether to follow Gigio Donnarumma out of Milan.

The contract of the former Bayer Leverkusen star expires at the end of the month, but the 27-year-old has yet to decide on his future.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports Milan offered Calhanoglu a €4m-a-year deal until 2026, which somehow it’s still not enough to convince the Turkey international to stay.

Calhanoglu will face Gigio Donnarumma’s Italy in the opening game of Euro 2020 at the Stadio Olimpico this sevening.

Gigio’s situation is much different as the Italian goalkeeper has already decided to leave the San Siro at the end of the season.

Donnarumma has reached a verbal agreement with PSG over a €12m-a-year deal and only needs to undergo his medical tests with the Ligue 1 giants before moving to Paris.

Calhanoglu, who has also received offers from Al-Duhail and Juventus, finds himself at a crossroads and will take a final decision about his future after the Euros.

“I spoke to Maldini three days ago, he called me. We talked about Milan, I said that I wanted to concentrate on the Euros. I will always speak to Maldini and Massara with great respect,” the Turkish playmaker said during a pre-match press conference on Thursday.
