Agent Giovanni Branchini argues Dusan Vlahovic has not rejected a new Fiorentina contract because of money. ‘He’s making an investment on himself.’
The Serbia international is under contract until June 2023, but has rejected the latest extension proposal from the Viola.
It suggests a sale next summer is inevitable, although a January exit is not to be ruled out either.
The 21-year-old has been linked to Juventus, Inter, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City, among others, although in Serbia and Italy most reporters are confident the Bianconeri are the favourites.
“There are many situations that can prompt a player to want a change of scenery, regardless of the economic situation,” agent and honorary president of the Italian Agents’ Union Branchini told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.
Branchini does not represent Vlahovic and was asked about the situation of players who turn down contract extensions.
“Maybe they just have the ambition of choosing where to play. If Vlahovic decides against signing a new contract, he is making an investment on himself, giving up on the money he could earn just by signing right away on a renewal.”
Vlahovic has scored six goals in eight games for Fiorentina this season, between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, along with one assist.
He has now found the net six times in 12 senior caps for Serbia, including a goal in each of his last three appearances.
The asking price for a sale is expected to be in the region of €75m.
