Watch the gruelling footage of Jorge Masvidal attempting to lose 20lbs in six days to fight Kamaru Usman at UFC 251

Jorge Masvidal has released frightening footage of the draining weight cut he endured in order to headline UFC 251.

‘Gamebred’ stepped in to replace Gilbert Burns on just six days’ notice to face Kamaru Usman for the UFC welterweight title last year in a heroic effort.

Although the 36-year-old was unsuccessful in his attempts to dethrone the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’, the professionalism and dedication required to even make the championship weight of 170lbs and go five rounds impressed many.

But it did not come easy, with Masvidal confirming he had to cut 20lbs in just six days and the ensuing footage from his official YouTube channel showed just how tough it was on the fighting veteran.

Masvidal earned his first shot at UFC glory with a stellar 2019 when he knocked out Darren Till and Ben Askren in emphatic fashion, before being crowned the inaugural BMF champion against Nate Diaz.

Although he was unsuccessful against Usman at UFC 251, he now has the opportunity to right those wrongs at UFC 261 after having a six week camp to prepare for the 33-year-old.

The veteran, who turned pro at 18, will fight for the 50th time on Saturday night at the VyStar Memorials Arena (his first ever rematch) and believes he has what it takes.

“I got to take a lot of notes on this guy, see his strength levels, gauge his speed and his power,” Masvidal told The New York Post. “And one thing I can tell you [is] that, man, as tired as I was in that fourth and fifth round, when he cracked me, it was like, ‘Man, this guy hits like a b****.’

“So I’m not worried about his power.

“It’s just at the end of the day, God made us. God made me a man, and God made him a little less.”
