Stuart Pearce reveals he won’t sign new West Ham contract until David Moyes’ future is sorted as Hammers coach praises ‘classy’ Jesse Lingard

Stuart Pearce has revealed he will not sign a new contract at West Ham until David Moyes’ future is resolved.

The Scot guided the Hammers into Europe with an unlikely sixth-placed finish last season.

Moyes has won over several West Ham fans since his reappointment as manager

Moyes’ contract runs out this summer and is yet to put pen-to-paper on fresh terms with the future of first-team coach Pearce also up in the air.

Pearce is waiting for Moyes to sign a new deal before committing his future to the London Stadium.

He told talkSPORT’s White and Jordan: “David’s certainly speaking with the club now.

“For all intents and purposes him and the club have agreed to extend his contract.

“Until David agrees his contract, it’s folly for me to make any sort of movements towards signing a new contract at the club.

“The club have made me an offer, which I’ve very grateful for, but I’ve not spoken to them in regard to agreeing a contract because my allegiance is with David. He was the one that brought me to the club.”

Pearce insists he will stay loyal to Moyes throughout contract negotiations

Moyes signed an 18-month contract when he returned to West Ham as manager in December 2019.

Since his reappointment, the 58-year-old has guided the club away from relegation danger and into the Europa League.

Jesse Lingard, a January loan arrival from Manchester United, played an integral part in the Hammers’ rise with nine goals and four assists in 16 Premier League appearances last season.

And Pearce was full of praise for Lingard, who has been heavily linked with a permanent move to West Ham.

He said: “Jesse hadn’t been playing for a little while at Man United and he was out of the scene.

Lingard thrived during a loan spell with the Hammers last season

“Listen, class is always there. He’s a very classy player, he understands the game very well.

“We were probably a little bit surprised… I was surprised by how quickly he hit the ground running. He had an impact almost immediately.

“Physically he’s a fantastic athlete. A lot of credit has to go to the player, but to David as well.

“David’s got him and playing him in a position that really suited the kid. He thrived on being around the environment that David’s created there.”
