Nuno Espirito Santo set to be named new Crystal Palace manager as former Wolves boss edges closer to Selhurst Park hot seat

Crystal Palace expect to name Nuno Espirito Santo as their new manager, talkSPORT understands.

Roy Hodgson stepped down as Eagles boss at the end of the 2020/21 season and the Premier League club have been searching for his replacement in the past weeks.

Nuno looks set to take the reins at Selhurst Park

Nuno, 47, has been locked in talks with the south London club since leaving Wolves at the end of the season.

The Portuguese, who steered the Wanderers back to the top flight in his four-year spell at Molineux, was also on Everton’s shortlist to succeed Carlo Ancelotti, who re-joined Real Madrid earlier this month.

Last week, Palace winger Andros Townsend, whose contract expires at the end of June, admitted he liked the idea of Nuno taking the reins at Selhurst Park.

Hodgson preserved Crystal Palace’s Premier League status in each of his four seasons in charge

“If it is Nuno, or a manager of Nuno’s ilk, then it would be great for the club,” Townsend told talkSPORT Breakfast last week as he reacted to reports of Palace’s interest.

“He is somebody who is proven in the Premier League, has taken Wolves up from the Championship, and got them into Europe.

“If it happened, it would be a great appointment.

“But I’m sure there’s a long way to go before he’s announced. I’m sure they’ll be interviewing other people.

“Everton are now in the hunt for a manager, so I fear he may be somebody they look at as well. Unfortunately, there’s a lot that goes on before they sign on the dotted line.”
