Manchester United manager latest as Carrick gets Champions League win, Pochettino ‘happy’ at PSG but approach expected, Valverde interim talks, Chelsea thrash Juventus but suffer double injury blow – live football news

The post Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era at Manchester United began with victory, but the club’s search for a new manager is hotting up.

‘Interim interim’ boss Michael Carrick guided the Red Devils to a 2-0 victory over Villarreal on Tuesday night, as United booked their place in the last-16 of the Champions League as group winners.

Despite the former star’s promising start, though, it appears United bosses will learn from previous mistakes and are going ahead with their search for a top class and proven next manager.

Mauricio Pochettino has responded to being linked with the role, saying he’s ‘happy’ at Paris Saint-Germain, but talkSPORT understands PSG are still expecting a formal approach despite the coach’s comments.

It’s also claimed United are ‘in talks’ with Ernesto Valverde, but will ditch those plans with the former Barcelona boss if they can get a deal for Poch over the line.

Away from Manchester, defending European champions Chelsea also enjoyed a fine night in the Champions League with a 4-0 victory over Juventus, but it came as a cost with both N’Golo Kane and Ben Chilwell forced off with knee injuries.
