Manchester United could sell Paris Saint-Germain target Paul Pogba this summer to avoid losing him on free transfer with Saul Niguez and Declan Rice backed as replacements

Manchester United could be pressured into selling Paul Pogba to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The Red Devils midfielder has less than a year left on his £290,000-a-week deal and is being linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Pogba’s days at Man United could be numbered

The Mail claim Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, is discussing personal terms with PSG, who are confident of landing the France star for less than half of the £89million fee United paid Juventus in 2016.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has mooted West Ham’s Declan Rice and Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez as replacements for Pogba should he leave United.

He told talkSPORT: “If you look at Pogba’s five years so far, you’d probably give him a seven to an eight.

“He’s had moments of brilliance and he’s certainly a top quality footballer. Has he done it often enough for Manchester United? No.

Pogba, who starred for France at Euro 2020, remained coy about his Man United future when asked about it last month

“The level at United has to be consistent and playing well week in, week out. He’s had that in large parts.

“He can be a game changer. I’ve seen him do it many times. Not only for United, but for France.

“Six goals for United last season, which is not a bad return, but there are too many times he’s played in a more defensive role.

“I always think of Sir Alex Ferguson and one thing I was told was if he ever thought you wanted to leave or you were mooting it around, you’re not staying at United.

“That’s the kind of attitude that needs to be used at United for players. If you don’t want to sign a new deal at Manchester United, that’s a big thing.

“Is it money driven? He’s on nearly £300,000-a-week, so I personally think it’s the time if you can get a good offer to let him go and find someone, like Saul Niguez, Declan Rice, to improve.

Rice, who has been linked to Chelsea, could be a replacement for Pogba at Man United

“Declan Rice wouldn’t get the numbers, but he’d certainly add a lot to the dynamic of the midfield, which Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] would want to use.

“You’re talking about such a talented and gifted player that hasn’t been consistent for a five-year period.”

It is understood PSG will have to sell players before submitting a £43m bid for Pogba.

The French giants have already splashed £51.3m on Achraf Hakimi, while bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Gianluigi Donnarumma on free transfers.

Asked about his future last month, Pogba said: “I have one year left on my contract, everyone knows that.

“There have been no concrete proposals for extensions. I’m still in Manchester.”
