Liverpool reportedly want to sign Jude Bellingham next summer in what could prove to be a club-record £80million deal.
Bellingham has been phenomenal since leaving Birmingham to join Borussia Dortmund in 2020 and is now part of England’s senior squad.
His performances have turned the heads of Premier League clubs but the Daily Star reports the Reds are ahead of the likes of Manchester United in the race for the 18-year-old midfielder.
The report adds Jurgen Klopp sees Bellingham, who snubbed a move to Old Trafford in favour of joining Dortmund, as an ideal fit for his team.
Bellingham joined the German side for £25m but his value has since rocketed. The Star added that Liverpool may have to pay more than the £75m they shelled out for record signing Virgil van Dijk.
It’s understood Bellingham is happy at Dortmund and will not push for a return to England, however, he views his long-term future in the Premier League.
Man United rolled out the red carpet for Bellingham with legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson reported to have given him a guided tour of the club’s Carrington training ground.
He is still on the Red Devils’ radar, however, the Star’s report says they are prioritising the signing of Erling Haaland next summer.
Whoever does sign Bellingham is in a potentially brilliant position with the player previously being likened to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
“He’s a fantastic player,” former Birmingham ace Jermaine Pennant told talkSPORT last year. “He reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard.
“He throws himself about, he can get up and down the pitch, he can score goals and assist goals, he’s got trickery. He’s a fantastic young player.
“What he can achieve in his career is frightening.”
