Jules Kounde ‘furious’ with Sevilla over blocked Chelsea transfer with defender ‘ignoring his manager’ and sent off for wild tackle for France

Sevilla defender Jules Kounde is so furious at the club for not allowing him to complete a move to Chelsea that he’s now avoiding calls from his manager, according to reports.

Kounde was the subject of intense speculation over a transfer to Stamford Bridge, but Champions League winners Chelsea failed to land their number one defensive target as the window drew to a close.

The Blues reportedly offered £47million for the 22-year-old Europa League winner, and it appeared at one point a transfer was imminent.

But Sevilla’s director of football, Monchi, pulled the plug at the 11th hour, as the notoriously tough negotiator stood firm on Kounde’s £68m release clause.

Now both the club chief and manager Julen Lopetegui are reportedly being ghosted by Kounde, who is currently away with France on international duty.

That’s according to reports in Spain, that claim Kounde is still fuming over his failed move to the Premier League.

Kounde was also linked with Tottenham earlier this summer

Although maybe unrelated, Kounde may have let his frustrations get the better of him on Thursday night as he was sent off for France.

The young defender was red carded for a wild challenge on Sead Kolasinac against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their World Cup qualifier, contributing to France only taking a point from the game.

And it’s easy to see why Kounde thought he was on the move, with Chelsea even clearing the path for his signing by offloading fellow centre back Kurt Zouma to West Ham for £29.8m earlier in the week.

The young defender was also left out of Sevilla’s squad to face Elche in LaLiga last weekend with a move to London looking like a near certainty.

Monchi attempted to clarify the situation earlier in the week saying: “The first and only formal offer was last Wednesday, around five in the afternoon, with an amount that did not satisfy our desires and was conditional on Chelsea selling a player.

“It was an important offer, considering the current world where there are so many hardships, but it did not meet our demands, conditions, or quantities.

“We responded with a counter-offer with a deadline of last Friday night (the 27th) and they have not responded. Since then there has been no contact. Chelsea’s formal offer, Sevilla’s formal response, but nothing else.”

After walking away from the deal, Chelsea focused their efforts elsewhere in Spain, bringing in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez on a €4m loan deal with an option to make the move permanent next summer.

Chelsea fans are certainly excited for Saul’s arrival

Saul joins £97m club record signing Romelu Lukaku in moving to Chelsea this summer, but the Blues will have to now make do with their current defensive corps.

Chelsea have Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta to fill in Thomas Tuchel’s preferred back three, along with the returning Trevoh Chalobah who has impressed the German coach.
