Jesse Lingard’s future ‘in Manchester United’s hands’ amid Harry Kane and Jadon Sancho swap links as Stuart Pearce admits West Ham would love to keep star

West Ham coach Stuart Pearce has told talkSPORT they would love to have Jesse Lingard back next season, but the club have very little control over his future.

Lingard has been sensational for the Hammers since joining from Manchester United on loan in January.

Jesse Lingard looks back to his best since joining West Ham on loan

The 28-year-old has nine goals and four assists in 15 Premier League appearances.

His performances have earned him the April player of the month prize and also a call-up to England in March, and a possible place in the Three Lions’ Euro 2020 squad.

West Ham are said to be keen on signing him permanently, but United may have other ideas.

He has impressed so much that the Red Devils are believed to have slapped a £40million price tag on him.

Rumours are also circulating that he could be used as part of a player-plus-cash deal for either Harry Kane with Tottenham or Jadon Sancho with Borussia Dortmund.

Lingard has worked his way back into England contention for the Euros

West Ham coach Pearce gave an update on Lingard’s future with the club as he joined talkSPORT Breakfast on Friday.

Pearce said: “I wish I had a clue. Put it this way, if I was in Jesse’s position then I would probably want to play my football where I was enjoying it.

“The one thing is he is a contracted Manchester United player at this moment in time.

“I’m sure at our end we will have a will to keep him at the club and potentially get him at the club because he’s done so well.

“That decision is in Manchester United’s hands more so than it is ours.”

Lingard’s arrival gave the club a timely boost that saw them competing for a top four finish in the Premier League.

They’ve slipped down to sixth with one game to go and know that a result against Southampton on Sunday will guarantee them a Europa League place.

Pearce added: “It’s given us a great lift. We know he had quality with what he’d done before us, I personally think that West Ham and the opportunity to come here had come at a really good time to kickstart his career from his personal point of view.

David Moyes has got the very best out of Lingard at West Ham

“It’s been good for West Ham and I think West Ham have been really good for him.

“Dave was aware of Jesse beforehand and we were accurately aware of technical ability, but his physical ability as well to hit the ground running as well as he did.

“We played him in a position where he flourished and he’s scored goals and created goals. He’s been sensational since he’s joined us.”
