Gareth Southgate faced the media on Tuesday afternoon and explained his decision to select four right-backs for Euro 2020.
The England boss had to trim down his 33-man provisional squad to 26 players ahead of this month’s tournament.

His job was made a little easier by Mason Greenwood withdrawing due to a pre-existing injury.
Joining him were Aaron Ramsdale, Ben Godfrey, Ben White, Jesse Lingard, James Ward-Prowse and Ollie Watkins.
The right-back position was one perhaps giving Southgate the most headaches, with four players to choose from.
Liverpool man Trent Alexander-Arnold was expected to miss out, but he was included alongside Reece James, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker.

Explaining his decision, Southgate said: “Yes, we have four players who play sometimes at right-back for their clubs.
“Kieran here has been playing at wing-back as well as right-back. Reece James has played right of a three or right wing-back.
“Trent plays at right-back, Kyle Walker has played at centre-half for us in a the three and also played at left-back for us in a game against Denmark.
“Reece James has played in midfield against Aston Villa. They are in our best 26 footballers and that’s why they are in our squad.
“If I could have picked a fifth and sixth right-back, I probably would have done.”
When asked if he wasn’t categorising the players as defenders, Southgate added: “We’re here to play nine games.
“We already have some injury doubts in the group, I’m sure we’re going to face other difficulties over the next five weeks, so we need adaptability, we need good professionals, tactically savvy players.
“We’re fortunate we have old and young players who fit those categories.”

Trippier, who won LaLiga with Atletico Madrid this season, was one of those four right-backs selected by Southgate and was asked about it in that press conference.
He said: “There’s four quality right-backs, we can play in different positions in the team. As four competitive right-backs, we want to help each other to do the best for the team.
“I’m sure all four of us will do that.”
