Everton have confirmed they have suspended one of their first-team players pending a police investigation.

No details on the investigation or alleged offences have been revealed and the Premier League club say they will not be commenting further at this time.

Everton have confirmed the suspension of a first-team player

The Goodison Park club published a statement on their official website on Monday night, in which they said they were supporting the authorities with their enquiries.

It read: “Everton can confirm it has suspended a First-Team player pending a police investigation.

“The Club will continue to support the authorities with their inquiries and will not be making any further statement at this time.”

The Toffees have begun their pre-season campaign for the new term, the first under newly-appointed manager Rafael Benitez.

The former Liverpool boss has a battle on his hands this season to win over supporters, as he looks to improve on their 10th place Premier League finish under Carlo Ancelotti last season.

Everton face a packed schedule to gear up for the 2021/22 season, with the squad set to fly out for a pre-season tour of the United States later this month, where they will play Colombian team Millonarios on July 26 before facing either Arsenal or Inter Milan on July 29, both in Florida.

The Toffees will then return home for their final pre-season clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford, before their Premier League campaign gets underway at home against Southampton on August 14.
