EFL announce interchangeable fixture list for Derby and Wycombe as Charlton vs Sheffield Wednesday kicks off 2021/22 season

The 2021/22 EFL season kicks off with recently relegated Sheffield Wednesday travelling to Charlton on August 7.

The Owls dropped into the third tier following a dramatic 3-3 draw with Derby on the final day, while the Addicks narrowly missed out on a spot in the League One play-offs.

Derby’s place in the Championship remains up in the air following the recent announcement that the club will have an interchangeable fixture list, along with Wycombe, after receiving a £100,000 over some of their accounting policies.

The EFL has the option to appeal against the verdict and may call for a points deduction – which would see the Rams drop into League One.

Meanwhile, West Brom, Fulham and Sheffield United are back in the EFL after one and two-year stays in the Premier League respectively.

The Baggies travel to Bournemouth on the opening day, while Fulham entertain Middlesbrough and Sheffield United host Birmingham City.
