Demarai Gray close to Everton transfer as he returns to England after Bayer Leverkusen spell

Everton are set to announce their third signing of the Rafael Benitez era with former Leicester City winger Demarai Gray set to join the Toffees.

The 25-year-old is close to joining the Toffees for £1.5million, according to the Liverpool Echo.

He will complete his medical in the United States and may join the squad as part of their tour in Florida.

Gray started his career at Birmingham City and was a player who many had their eyes on as he lit up the Championship for his hometown club.

It was Midlands rivals Leicester who would secure his signature in January 2016 with a £3.75m bid enough to secure his services.

The move did not work out as well as everyone involved would have liked and his time at the Foxes came to an end in January 2021 where he moved to Germany with Bayer Leverkusen.

Clearly that move hasn’t gone exactly to plan either as he is now set for a return to the Premier League after just six months.

With Andros Townsend and Asmir Begovic joining from Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively, it has been a solid start to the transfer window for Everton as they look to improve on last season’s tenth placed finish.
