Cristiano Ronaldo makes steward’s year by gifting shirt after hitting her with ball during warm-up to Manchester United’s Champions League defeat to Young Boys

Cristiano Ronaldo made a steward’s year by gifting her his shirt after hitting her with a ball in the warm-up to Manchester United’s Champions League defeat to Young Boys.

All eyes were on the Portugal icon, fresh off the back of two goals on his second Premier League debut, as the Red Devils kick-started their 2021/21 campaign in Europe.

It’s fair to say getting hit by Ronaldo’s shot was probably worth it for the steward

Ronaldo put United in front, although they would stumble to a dramatic 2-1 defeat as Aaron Wan-Bissaka was sent off and Jesse Lingard made a last-minute howler to gift the winning goal.

But Ronaldo made his mark before the game even started in Switzerland.

Upon noticing a female member of staff had been struck by a stray ball – that he is reported to have struck – at the Stade de Suisse, the 36-year-old jumped over the barrier to check on her.

The steward was already receiving medical attention and the forward spent a moment talking to her before returning to the warm-up.

And after the game, the 36-year-old probably made the steward’s year as he presenter her with his shirt – and she was evidently absolutely delighted with the gift.

Ronaldo was making his 177th appearance in the Champions League, equalling the record held by Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas.

The United striker is already the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer and added to that tally by netting his 135th Champions League goal in the 13th minute.

It means the five-time Ballon d’Or winner already has three goals in two games since returning to Old Trafford, albeit the third came in a shocking defeat.
