Cristiano Ronaldo ‘could have been massive’ at Man City and won’t change Manchester United’s whole season, says Trevor Sinclair

Cristiano Ronaldo’s impact at Manchester City would have been bigger than the impact he’ll have at Manchester United, Trevor Sinclair has suggested.

Ronaldo was looking for a new club after handing in a transfer request at Juventus, and it looked all-but certain that he would be joining Pep Guardiola at the Etihad until the Red Devils swooped in at the 11th hour to bring back the mercurial talent.

Former Manchester City star Sinclair said: “I feel his impact at Manchester City would have been huge.

“They haven’t got a striker, they need one, the possession and the amount of chances they carve out and don’t get finished because they haven’t got an out and out striker such as [Sergio] Aguero or someone like Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Of course he would [have been a better fit at Man City], Man United have got Edinson Cavani, who does a very similar job.

“I’m sure Manchester United fans are delighted that he’s gone to Manchester United, but whether he’s gonna change their whole season I don’t think that’s the case, he could have been massive for Manchester City.

“I think I would have been more disappointed in Ronaldo’s legacy if he chose Manchester City.

“He is a Manchester United great, for him then to go to Manchester City, I think a lot of Manchester United fans wouldn’t have had him.”

It’s set to be an extremely exciting season for the club and Red Devils supporters as they welcome back one of their greats.

Alongside Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, Man United are in a great position to end their trophy drought and potentially bring back their first league title since 2013.

Ronaldo could also make his second debut after the international break when he will hope to feature against Newcastle United at Old Trafford. talkSPORT will be bang across that match for you on September 11.
