Bragging rights go to the red half of Madrid as Atletico Madrid beat Real to the LaLiga title on a nerve-jangling final day of the season.
Diego Simeone’s men went into the final round of fixtures two points ahead of Los Blancos but it looked like they were going to blow it when they fell behind at Real Valladolid.
But Atletico fought back in the second half and goals from Angel Correa and Luis Suarez, who left Real Madrid’s rivals Barcelona last summer to join Atletico, secured a 2-1 win and thus the championship.
It’s a good thing for Atletico they win as Zinedine Zidane’s men secured a late 2-1 win over Villarreal.
Yeremi Pino’s first-half opener appeared to have inflicted a surprise defeat on them but late goals from Karim Benzema and Luka Modric turned the match around.
Benzema thought he’d equalised with a header early in the second half but the goal was disallowed following a VAR check.
But Atletico were professional and won LaLiga for the first time since 2014.
