‘Arsenal will finish in top six this season, Tottenham won’t’ – Tony Cascarino makes Premier League prediction and backs Ben White transfer with £50m deal agreed

Arsenal have been tipped to make north London red again this season by finishing above Tottenham in the Premier League table – for the first time in SIX years.

talkSPORT pundit Tony Cascarino has offered his prediction for the upcoming campaign, and expects Mikel Arteta’s side to pip their rivals.

Cascarino expects Arsenal to finish above Tottenham in the Premier League this season

The Gunners haven’t finished above Spurs since the 2015/16 campaign, when they finished runners-up to champions Leicester City, and Spurs were just one point back in third place.

But it’s been a while since either club were so high up the table. Both London sides will be looking to improve after a mixed season last term, with Spurs finishing seventh and Arsenal one point behind in eighth as the rivals struggled for form and consistent results.

A return to European football will be the aim for Arteta, with Arsenal facing their first season in 25 years without Champions League or Europa League competition.

And the Spaniard is making in-roads to improving his team already, with the Gunners agreeing the £50million transfer of Ben White to shore up their back-four.

Arteta will look to bring in several new players this summer

Spurs also face a crucial campaign, their first under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has inherited a disjointed squad that could be rocked by the exit of star man Harry Kane this summer.

A top four return is the dream for both sides, but Cascarino feels that’s far too unrealistic a goal.

But, he believes Arsenal will get the better of Tottenham this season, and also expects Leicester to upset the big boys once again.

“Arsenal have a huge challenge, they’re going to invest and try and build a squad,” said the talkSPORT Weekend Sports Breakfast host.

“But I don’t see them getting in front of the teams around them, even though the ambition is to be a top four club.

“One of Arsenal or Tottenham will make the top six, but one of them definitely won’t make it.

White looks set to join Arsenal in a £50m deal

“I think out of the two, I’d probably just have Arsenal in front of Spurs, but not by a big difference.

“I think Leicester will make the top four, I think there are going to be some big clubs who miss out on that spot.”

Cascarino also praised Arsenal’s business in their agreement for Brighton and England centre-back White.

talkSPORT understands north London side have committed to paying Brighton’s £50m asking price having previously had bids of £40m and £42m rejected.

White has agreed personal terms with his prospective new club, however, the five-year deal won’t be done until after he returns from holiday following his exploits with England at Euro 2020.

“He’s a very versatile defender, who ticks the box of can you play him in different positions, can you play him in a four and in a three? Most certainly so,” Cascarino said.

“I watched him at Leeds and Brighton and I think they’re getting a very accomplished player of a certain age.”
