Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Man City must collectively sell nearly 3.5million shirts to recoup transfer fees for Ben White, Jadon Sancho, Romelu Lukaku and Jack Grealish

Premier League clubs splashed the cash this summer in what was probably the most mental transfer window ever.

Jack Grealish joined Manchester City for a British record £100million fee, while Chelsea also smashed their club-record arrival to bring Romelu Lukaku in for £97.5m.

A lot of Grealish shirts need to be sold this summer for the £100m fee to be paid back

Manchester United brought in three huge names in the shape of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and none other than Cristiano Ronaldo for roughly £130m, while Arsenal were the top-flight’s biggest spenders having coughed up around £156m on new talent this summer.

The huge names that were bought have come at a pretty penny, but clubs will be comforted by the fact that shirt sales will go some way to recuperating those fees.

Incredibly, it’s understood United recuperated half of the initial £12m spent on Ronaldo in just 72 hours of his iconic number seven shirt going on sale.

At this rate, the club will recoup the whole transfer fee for Ronaldo before he has kicked a ball for united.

But how many shirts will have to be sold for the other huge transfers this summer? sought to discover how many shirt sales would need to be approximately achieved by clubs to recoup the transfer fee of the biggest signings of the 2021 summer transfer market.

Collectively, Arsenal, United, Chelsea and City would have to sell around 3.5million shirts to recoup transfer fees for Ben White, Sancho, Lukaku and Grealish.

Grealish’s blockbuster £100m move to Man City would be paid back if a staggering 1,176,471 shirts were sold.

The shirt sales needed to recoup players’ transfer fees sought to discover how many shirt sales would need to sold for the biggest transfers this summer

  1. Jack Grealish to Manchester City (£100m) – 1,176,471 shirts

2. Jadon Sancho to Manchester United (£73m) – 913,071

3. Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea -(£97.5m) – 812,839

4. Achraf Hakimi to Paris Saint-Germain (£51.3m) – 675,000

5. Ben White to Arsenal (£50m) – 588,235

9. Dayot Upamecano to Bayern Munich (£37m) – 435,294

The fee United paid for Sancho, meanwhile, would need to see just under a million shirts sold (913, 071).

The £97.5m fee that Chelsea paid to re-sign Lukaku would be recuperated if 812,839 were sold by the west London club.

For Arsenal’s biggest transfer of the summer – Ben White’s £50m move – 588,235 shirts would need to be sold to get the fee back.

White, 23, was Arsenal’s biggest signing this summer at £50million from Brighton

By looking at the names on the list, United may well have signed the players who will sell the most shirts.

Ronaldo, as shown by the record amount of sales already, might just have proved to be the signing of the summer with his fee more likely to be paid back in the coming weeks.
