Renato Sanches is ready to take on a new challenge which has boosted Arsenal’s chances of signing the Lille midfielder.
The Portugal star has rebuilt his career in France after a topsy-turvy start to life in the game.
After breaking through as a youngster with Benfica, Sanches earned a big move to Bayern Munich, but he faltered and had a poor loan spell with Swansea in the Premier League.
Lille snapped up him up in 2019 and he’s now back on the road to the top having been a key component in their title win ahead of Paris Saint-Germain last term.
The 24-year-old sustained an injury at the beginning of the season but he’s since returned to action for club and country.
And he confirmed to L’Equipe he missed out on a potential transfer to Barcelona in the summer due to the knee problem he suffered.
Arsenal and AC Milan also retain an interest in signing the Portuguese midfielder and he’s confirmed he believes he can make the step up again should another opportunity present itself.
“When I arrived at Bayern [in 2016, at 18], I was not ready to play in such a club. I was very young. And when I got ready, the opportunity to play with this team never came,” Sanches said..
“Today I feel ready. I understand football better, I have more experience, I know what to do to play in this kind of club and that changes everything.”
Arsenal failed to meet Lille’s asking price in the summer, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
And questioned about their interest, he added: “Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know.
“I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”
