Antonio Conte will give Dele Alli a ‘big chance’ to turn around Tottenham career just like he did with Marcelo Brozovic at Inter Milan, who’s now ‘one of the best centre midfielders in the world’

Dele Alli’s time at Tottenham isn’t done just yet with Antonio Conte understood to be ready to give the player a ‘big chance’ to reignite his career.

Alli enjoyed a stunning start to his Spurs career with his first season seeing him register ten goals and nine assists in the Premier League.

Alli has looked lost over the past couple of seasons

He continued to progress in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 campaigns but his form has plummeted over the last couple of seasons and he was linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain last term.

Jose Mourinho’s spell as Spurs boss saw the lowest moments of Alli’s career at the club but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says Conte is striving to get the 25-year-old back on track.

“Conte wants to give Alli a big chance,” Romano said on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE show.

“Antonio Conte’s convinced that Dele Alli is a player for top clubs. Now he wants Dele Alli to show his skills with a completely different attitude and atmosphere in the club.”

Can Conte be the one to reignite Alli’s Spurs career?

Conte has become a specialist in improving his players, with Romelu Lukaku crediting the Italian for transforming his fortunes.

Romano added that Conte’s work on Alli could bear some resemblance to how he helped get Marcelo Brozovic firing at Inter Milan again.

“It reminds me of the situation of Marcelo Brozovic at Inter,” Romano added. “Now he’s one of the best centre midfielders in the world, he’s doing incredibly with Inter, in the Champions League and Serie A and with the Croatia national team.

“Before Conte arrived he was considered a player that would leave Inter on loan, he was considered a player that doesn’t have a good attitude or mentality and is not so good in training.

Now Brozovic is arguably the best midfielder in Serie A, believes Romano

“Antonio arrived and told him ‘I want you to change your life and career’, and within two years Brozovic was one of the best midfielders in the league, if not the best and now he’s doing fantastically at Inter with another manager.

“He completely changed his career and this is why I think Antonio has a big chance with Dele, it’s up to Dele now to show he can do it.”

Former Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle then gave his two cents on how he would get Alli back on form.

“I’d ask him what he thought his best asset is as a midfielder player – I’d like him to give me the answer,” Hoddle told talkSPORT Breakfast.

“If he didn’t know I’d explain to him but I think he’d say ‘I’m a goalscoring midfield player’, that’s what I’d want him to say. That was when he was at his very best. He’d pick off where Harry Kane would make runs and he’d go into areas into the box.

“He was a bit like David Platt, he was a box threat forever, he’d score goals… Dele Alli’s not someone who can play deeper, you can play through him. He’s got to keep the ball better.

“His major asset for me is getting into the box. A few seasons ago it was all working when Christian Eriksen was in the side and that’s where I feel Spurs are missing out at the moment. If Eriksen didn’t find Harry Kane, he’d find Alli and he’d get the goals.”
