Pol Lirola rejected Atalanta for Marseille this summer

Speaking in an interview with La Provence, Spanish full-back Pol Lirola confirmed that he turned down an offer from Champions’ League-participating Atalanta because he wanted to return to Marseille following an initial loan spell from Fiorentina.

“The truth, is that I did not know if I could come back, because the days were passing by and the transfer was not getting done. I admit I had moments where I was getting annoyed. The coach was counting on me, Pablo (Longoria) continued to negotiate. The interest from Atalanta was transmitted to me, and even if I would have loved to play in the Champions’ League, I immediately said to my agent that I only wanted to play for Marseille. If the negotiations with Marseille had gone awry, we would have listened to other offers.”
